Services & Fees
Services & Fees
I provide in-home consultations, phone consultations, private prenatal counseling, and returning to work consults. I appreciate your business, and want to make sure you get the best possible help. Sometimes a one-time visit is all that is needed, but for the best care, a follow-up appointment is often recommended.
Payment is expected at the time of service. If you have financial constraints, it is your responsibility to mention this to me so that we can come up with a comfortable payment method. No one will ever be turned away who cannot afford my regular fee.
Keep in mind what other professionals (plumbers, music teachers, computer techs, etc.) charge for their services and that a year of formula feeding is close to $2000.
Initial Consultation
The initial consultation is scheduled for 2 hours, although sometimes I will take longer to work through the more complicated issues. Please allow for 3 hours. Twin consults typically take longer. The initial consultation fee includes a detailed, written care plan, a report to your physician and phone follow-up with you, as needed, until the problem is resolved.
$165 ($20 for each extra baby)
Follow-up Consultation
In some cases, one or more follow-up visits may be necessary to measure progress, improve latch, deal with new, but related issues, or provide confirmation of improvement (weight gain, milk transfer, etc.). On my care plan I may suggest that a follow-up appointment may be necessary but I will leave that up to your discretion. If, however, after the first week or two, the problem is not resolving and cannot be adequately addressed over the phone, I will suggest a follow-up consult to reassess the care plan.
$60 per hour
Phone Follow-up
I am committed to working with you to help you resolve the problem for which the initial consult was scheduled. I will make a phone call within the first 24-48 hours after the consult. After that, I will depend on you to call me when you have questions, concerns, or successes to report. The best time to call me is between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., though if you have an urgent concern that cannot wait until the morning, please do not hesitate to call. If I do not answer the phone, please leave a message and let me know how late I can return your call.
No Charge
Weight Check
During this 30 minute visit, I will come to your house, weigh the baby, and do a quick update.
$30
Phone Consultation
If you have a quick breastfeeding-related question, I will be happy to speak with you over the phone for a few minutes. If, however, a new problem or situation develops not directly related to the initial consult, and does not warrant a home consultation, we can schedule a phone consult.
Half-hourly Rate @ $30
Prenatal Consultation
In the comfort of your home, I will go over, in great detail, all the basics of breastfeeding and how to determine whether breastfeeding going well or not once you welcome your baby into this world. Most private prenatal classes run 2 hours. All prenatal clients will receive a 10% discount off a breastfeeding consult after the baby is born.
Hourly Rate @ $60 (typical prenatal is $120).
Travel
Typically, I do my consults in the comfort of your home. If I have to travel more than 30 minutes to reach your home, I charge a minimal travel fee to cover gas and time.
$25 travel fee
Insurance coverage: As of now, the only insurance company that will cover the cost of an in-home consultation by an IBCLC in Connecticut, is ConnectiCare. Anthem does cover two post-partum visits for some women, but prior to our consult you are responsible for discussing your coverage with your insurance company. When you call make sure to write everything down -- the name of customer service personnel, date and time of call, and what was said to you in detail. This information may be critical if you need to dispute your claim. If you wish to file a claim, I will leave you with a superbill to submit, and they will send you a reimbursement check. You are still responsible for the cost of the consult.
